Making Huts

Today we were learning about making huts.
I enjoyed making the huts.
I found it hard bust our huts.

When I was little (and I still am ) I used to jump waves, dance like popcorn in a fire and climb trees but most of all I loved to make small huts. Desks held up the blanket. Tall chairs guarded the entrance Pegs clipped the thin sheets together. Then the angry bickering started.
“Where's my desk! WHO MOVED IT?!”
“Not me! Don't blame me!”
“You STOLE my CHAIR! GIVE IT NOW!”
“I didn't steal that chair! The boys did!”
“Can I have that mat? You have 3.”
“No!”
“Yes, only the small one.”
“Hey! YOU stole OUR WELCOME MAT!!!”
“ STOP STARING AT US WE NEED PRIVACY!”
Then Mrs Naden yelled “Bust your HUTS!”
“Awwwwwwwwwww”
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”
“I don't want to!”
It was awesome making huts.

Horouta waka

On Tuesday we walked as a class to room 10. Koka Maddison from the museum was teaching us about the Horouta waka. I found it tricky to find a perfect piece of wood for the base. Some people in Hawaiki called Paowa, Kiwa, Hinehakirirangi, Hinekua and Kahuanui. They sailed on the Horouta waka which is a waka hourua ( a boat with two hulls ) together until they stopped at New Zealand. Hinehakirangi brang kumara to New Zealand plant. The Horouta broke at the front so kiwa went to look for some wood. he found a huge tree chopped it down and sailed it down a nearby river. Paowa walked through valleys and found a perfect place to wait for kiwa and called it Turanganui a kiwa ( the waiting place of Kiwa ). In the end Hineakua and Kahuanui got married and some of their descendants are still alive today.
