Beatitudes

For reading we have been learning how to identify the character and/or author's point of view. I made a group of 5 with James, Baxter, Jakob A, Charlie and myself. We wrote about the beatitudes in the bible and made a slide. My group is called the Fantastic four and we had to discuss about two subjects. If New Zealand was nice to everyone and one about girls being aloud to play rugby.

I learnt that in some places girls can't play rugby. Here is a link to a story we read about this topic. I also learnt that this year, maori language week is the same week as social justice week.

I enjoyed discussing with my teammates because we all agreed on pretty much the same things. I also liked doing the slides with my small group because we got it done really quick.

I found it tricky to do anything because one of the people in my group kept copying and pasting a certain picture on every single slide. My group just got rid of them and he stopped.

Cats Or Dogs?

Today we were learning how to apply knowledge. We were also learning how to do persuasive writing. We wrote about why Cats are better than dogs or why Dogs are better than cats. I did not know how to make up my mind so I did both. Did you know Dogs can sniff at the same time as breathing? Did you know a house cat is genetically 95% tiger?

I learnt that cats and dogs are very different and not almost the same because they are pets. I also learnt that cats are quieter than dogs. Finally, I learnt that Dogs protect you.

My favourite part was learning about the most famous pets because there was so much information I did not know. Like did you know it is hard to train a cat but there are some cats that are trained? And did you know that even a chiwawa can protect you from strangers because dogs can smell fear.

I found it tricky to know what to choose because I liked both Dog and Cat. So I chose to do both and I found a site called The Spruce Pets and that is where I got a load of my information from.

Next time I would make a slide to hold my writing and plan because it would take up a lots of space just under this writing.

Cicada

Today I was learning how to apply knowledge and how to code on Scratch. We coded animations and mine was about cicadas. The instructions are green flag, space, up then down I enjoyed getting to code again because I have not coded in ages. I found it tricky to code them because again I have not coded in ages. Why Plastic is Bad for the Ocean

This week for reading we have been learning how to Apply Knowledge. If you want to know why I am blogging so much, you might not know, The whole of New Zealand is in a second lock down. So I have new tasks ( at least three ) Every school day! I made a slide about why Plastic is bad for the Ocean. Did you know, that in the middle of the ocean there is an island made of plastic? I enjoyed learning about the pollution because it was new learning for me. I found it tricky to get images because lots were copywrite. So I looked a bit harder and found six photos that were good enough. Here is my slides:

Great White Sharks

This week for reading I was learning to apply knowledge. We had to write about the anatomy of a animal we were assigned. I got a Great White Shark. Did you know that Great White Sharks are one of more than 450 shark species? I tried drawing it on Chrome Canvas and it worked. I enjoyed trying to make it because I thought that my idea would be very unique. I found it tricky to put on the writing because it hid behind the part that lets you pick your pen. So I just took a full screenshot. The one being hidden says snout just letting you know. Here is my Drawing:

Robots

This week for reading we have been learning about how to Infer. We made robots that could solve a big problem in the world today, I chose Forest fires. His name is Felix the Forest Fire fixing robot. There are big forest fires in California so this Felix will be needed there! I enjoyed reading because it was new learning for me. I found it tricky to make my Robot because I didn't know what to make it out of. I made it out of duplo. Here are my slides:

This week for reading we have been learning how to Summarise. I enjoyed learning about the Ngaio because it was new learning for me. I found it tricky to find what it did because it had not much information. Here it is:

Japan Facts

This week for reading we have been learning to skim and scan.  All the information I have on my slide is from the books that I have been reading on the internet. I enjoyed learning about Japan because it was new learning for me. I found it tricky to do the skimming because I forget about skimming and read the whole thing. Here is my slide.

Matariki

This week for reading we were learning how to compare and contrast. We read about Matariki in different countries and different stories for Matariki. I was in the group with Baxter, Leyla, Mya, Arabella, Camille and James. I enjoyed comparing the stories because they were all very different. I found it tricky to pick a background because barely anything showed up.

 

Wanted Poster

This week for reading I have been learning how to infer. We had to read about theseus and the Minotaur and make a wanted poster for the Minotaur. I enjoyed reading this story because it was new reading for me. I found it tricky to make a Minotaur because not many appropriate images showed up. Next time I would add the word Minotaur at the top because it would have looked better. Here it is:

Future Jail

This week for reading we were learning how to analyse and synthesize. We had to make something old from either this year or ages ago. I chose a jail. I enjoyed making the jail because I was trying to think of things that are very modern then make them even more modern. I found it tricky to draw it because I am a bad drawer.

Hi My Name Is Kylah in Sign language

This week we were learning to analyse and synthesize. We learnt how to say hi my name is then your name in sign language. I enjoyed learning my name because I did not have that much to learn. I found it tricky to do the vowels. Then Mrs Naden said each finger was a vowel. Next time I would try to do some common phrases.

Easter Puppet Show!

2 weeks ago, we were learning how to summarize. We learnt about how the easter story went from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. We had to make a puppet show about it. I buddied up with James. Halfway through the puppet show filming, I went away to dance competitions in Napier. So I did some at home. I enjoyed learning about the story of Easter because I could not believe how much happened in the time span of a week! I found it tricky to draw some of the characters because I am a bad drawer. Next time I would try to finish it on time.

Tornado Facts

This week for reading we have been making connections between what we read. We have been learning about tornadoes and tornado shelters. We had to make a slide about top 10 facts we found and make a tornado shelter that will fit our family and will have all our needs. I enjoyed learning about tornados because it was actually very interesting. I found it tricky to make a shelter because my book was not that big and I could not fit lots. Next time I would change the background of the slide because grey in hard to read off. Here they are:

Optical Illusion

This week we have been learning how to make connections between what we read. We had to read articles about optical illusions and watch a couple of videos as well. I have already made a optical illusion here but I wanted to do a harder type of it. So I traced my hand instead of a bowl. I enjoyed shading to make it look 3-D because it made it look better than it already was. I found it tricky to trace my hand because it is way harder than it sounds! Next time I would try to trace something else because it would look way cooler.

Pollution is bad for the ocean!

For the last 2 weeks we have been learning to make connections between what we read. We had to make a jamboard on some wow facts on some digital sticky notes. Did you know, plastic is in our food, water, honey and even salt? I learnt that glitter is plastic. I enjoyed watching the videos because they were easy to watch but a little bit hard to understand. I found it tricky to ad a sticky note to the jamboard because lots of people kept moving it, deleting it and changing its size. Next time I would change the speech bubble in the first slide because it does not look good with pink on green.

Roz the Robot

At school, we have been reading a book called The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. It is about how a shipwreck sends a stray robot in a box into the sea. It found land and the robot had to survive in the wild. We had to do a task about the book and I chose the minecraft one. It said to create Roz the Robot. I enjoyed making him covered in vines because I had to cover every part in vines. I found it tricky to make the face because I did not know how to make the glowstone dimmer. So I had to leave it alone. Next time I would change it so that there was more robot parts in the background

Book Prediction

We predicted what would happen in the new book for the week: Rat Island by Stu Duval. On the back it says: Tam is the cabin boy aboard the pirate ship Terrified Jane. He lives in fear of the dreaded pirate Captain Ezekiel Tombs and his pet scorpion Virus. Tombs sets Tam the awful task of spying on his shipmates and assures him of a dreadful fate if he doesn't obey his commands. Meanwhile, the crew demand that Tam take their side and mutiny against the captain. Tam has to make a terrible choice to make - should he obey Captain Tombs' orders, or should he be loyal to the crew and risk the captain's wrath?

It says: I think the story will be on a pirate ship a long time ago. I think the cabin boy Tam, might have to go to Rat Island.

The Crystal Crescent Book Review

We finished the Crystal Crescent today. Raki got the Crystal crescent and freed Tando.
I did my review on slides.
I found it tricky to find a picture of a picture of the crystal crescent so I took a photo.
I found it easy to use special characters for the stars.
Next time i would an image for the star rating so I could crop it for a half star.
