June Reflection

Today for Writing / Inquiry we were doing our June Reflection. We need to do it every month because we can sit there and remember what we did. Have you done a monthly reflection? I enjoyed learning this month because I learnt a whole lot of stuff! I found it tricky to think of who to do the complement because I could not think of who.

ASB Get Wise

This week for maths we were learning about financial literacy. Callum from ASB get wise came and talked to us about making a business. We had to come up with an idea to sell and shark tank it to the class. A shark tank is where someone comes up in front of people and proposes their business. Then the people they show it to tell them constructive criticism about their business to help them. I enjoyed coming up with an idea because nobody copied it so it was unique. I found it tricky to know what to do because lots of people chose different thing like gardening and dog walking. So I chose what I am good at. Making games. 

Matariki

This week for reading we were learning how to compare and contrast. We read about Matariki in different countries and different stories for Matariki. I was in the group with Baxter, Leyla, Mya, Arabella, Camille and James. I enjoyed comparing the stories because they were all very different. I found it tricky to pick a background because barely anything showed up.

Tom Fedro

This week for Art we have been learning about how to use painting techniques. We were recreating an art piece by Tom Fedro. Tom Fedro is from Chicago. He paints amazing pictures that seem to pop out of their paper!The painting techniques we used were Long brush strokes, Both sides of the paint brush, Bright colours, Bold lines, Tints and shades. We were drawing a lady. I chose to make mine look different so I gave it blue and purple hair. I enjoyed painting because I love to draw. I found it tricky to do the black lines because I could almost not see my lines. Here it is:

Measurement Task

This week for Maths we were learning how to measure. I enjoyed measuring myself because I didn't know I was 1.42m! I found it challenging to understand what popliteal meant because I have not learnt about that yet. Next time I would finish quicker.

  

What Do Beavers Smell Like?

This week for writing we have been learning how to use Complex Sentences. My Success criteria was to use a complex sentence and use a comma in my sentence. I enjoyed writing and finding out about this because I did not know that Beavers smell like what they do! I found it tricky to find out because I kept spelling it wrong. Next time I would try to finish faster.

What Do Beavers Smell Like?

Introduction

Beavers are rodents with big tails and teeth. Their teeth gnaw through trees to make their homes and dams But what do they smell like? 

What do they smell like?

Because of their diet of leaves and bark, Castoreum, stuff that comes out of there butt, smells like vanilla!

What is it used for? 

It is used in lots of things. Most surprising of them all is vanilla flavouring! It is also used in food and perfume. 

Summary 

Beavers vanilla because of Castoreum from what they eat. 

Wanted Poster

This week for reading I have been learning how to infer. We had to read about theseus and the Minotaur and make a wanted poster for the Minotaur. I enjoyed reading this story because it was new reading for me. I found it tricky to make a Minotaur because not many appropriate images showed up. Next time I would add the word Minotaur at the top because it would have looked better. Here it is:
