Lucky Star

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a lucky star (Puffy star). I actually got an origami book for christmas so I tried to copy the book. Did NOT turn out well. So I watched the video and I slowed it down by using the playback speed. Here is a link to the video.
I liked slowing the video down because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the paper tuck in because It kept on coming out.

Here is my lucky star that did not work:

Here is the actual lucky star:

  1. Mōrena Kylah,

Fiona here from the SLJ team. I really like the blog post you have done all about your experience with the paper star origami activity. I especially like how you have written about what steps you took to complete the task, what was tricky, and how you persevered with effort to create wonderful stars. Ka pai!

I tried this activity too and also found it really helpful to slow the video down. Thanks for including photos of your two different stars so we can see your origami journey!

Have you made anything else with your new origami book?

Keep up the great summer learning.

  2. Bonjour Kylah,

My name is Hayley, I am a Year 7 from Matawai School. I saw earlier that you commented on my blog, your comment was very positive and thoughtful! It made me smile! So, in return, I thought I better come and check out your blog, and leave a positive, helpful and thoughtful comment too.

This post is really interesting, I love origami! Do you do origami very regularly? Although it's tricky it provides a great challenge, and I love challenges. Do you like to challenge yourself? I have made lucky star before (in fact, more than 1, I think I made around 12-15), I remember it taking me a very long time!

I also saw that your first try didn't work out so well, however I loved how you kept trying and you mastered it the second time. You really persevered and I admire that! I love the way that you added in your failed star picture and then finished it off with the completed one!

I also thought that slowing down the video was clever! I do that sometimes when I can't understand how to complete a little step!

I don't have any origami books, but I just use the internet (YouTube, Google, websites etc) Have you created anything else from your book?

I hope that you enjoy the rest of your Summer Holidays, and have a Happy New Year! Stay safe, and well!
And I hope you had a great Christmas.

    Mā te wā
    Hayley

    1. Bonjour Hayley,
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog. 12 to 15 stars!? That is SO much! It must have taken a long time! It actually took a long time to do 1 too! I have not actually made another one but when I do it I'll blog it. I hope you had a merry christmas and a happy new year,
      Mā te wā,
      Kylah
