Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a super column that had a lot of compression. Nano Girl gave us this task too. I did not have any rocks so I used heavy trucks instead.
I liked finding the stuff I needed because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the paper hold because the trucks were heavy.
Here is my slide deck of the before and after:

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a lucky star (Puffy star). I actually got an origami book for christmas so I tried to copy the book. Did NOT turn out well. So I watched the video and I slowed it down by using the playback speed. Here is a link to the video.
I liked slowing the video down because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the paper tuck in because It kept on coming out.

Here is my lucky star that did not work:

Here is the actual lucky star:

Fishy False Teeth

Today for my summer learning journey I read an article called fishy false teeth. It is about a man called Cor Stoop who lost his upper dentures while in the north sea on a charter boat. A tackle shop owner found them in a fish when they were gutting them. They soon noticed that it was a practical joke and that they were his wives. We had to fill out some slides and near the end say the characters.
I liked reading the article because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to add their purpose in the story because it was hard for me to remember.
Here is my slides:

Trash into Treasure

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make an object out of old things. Nano girl, who is a scientist, set the activity and said that we were turning our trash to treasure. I chose to make a bag out of an old shirt. That can hold my books when I go to the library because sometimes I ro many to hold. the shirt just happened to be my brothers old shirt. In the small pocket at the front I have my bookmark, and in the actual thing is a book. This bag is really strong and can hold produce from the farmers market.

I liked cutting the top off it because it was the easiest bit.

It was hard to knot the bottom because it was too short.

How to make it:

You will need an old shirt and scissors

First cut off the neck hole to make it wider. Then cut small stips at the bottom. Turn it inside out then double knot the strips together. Turn in back the right way and done!

Here is my before and after:

I enjoyed making the pattern because I just needed to make one then copy and paste.
It was hard to make a background because i don't really know how to put a background on google drawings.

What Christmas Means To Me

Last week I wrote a acrostic poem about what christmas means to me. I put a little message at the end. It means Christmas may be different but spending time with family is always the same.
I liked how I made the word it started with bigger then the rest smaller because it looks like an acrostic poem.
It was hard to think of what the words started with because some were really hard.
Here is my acrostic poem:

What Christmas means to me…
Christmas, the birth of Jesus, means to me…
Christmas is a perfect time of year
Happy holidays for our families
Running through prickles on my nana’s lawn
Is about giving that gives us joy
Silly Christmas games making us tired
Tempting to eat the bacon and eggs for breakfast
Mum telling us to be quiet
Another Christmas almost done
Sleeping soundly as the day finishes

Christmas may have different meanings…
All different traditions...
But one thing is the same…
Spending time with family!

Term 1 Goal Setting Reflection

Today we were seeing if we achieved our Term 1 goal setting. I improved on my maths alot and learnt heaps of my 7 and 8 times. I showed people how to do their blogs and helped with their work. I even just now showed them about a polyline!

Ice Candles

Yesterday we started making ice candles. What we needed was a long candle, old candles, ice, oil and old milk cartons. First we had to cut the tops off the milk cartons and spread oil on all four sides. Next we had to melt the old candles. It smelt so nice! We then held the long candles in the milk cartons and poured enough ice in there to hold it still. After that we tipped the wax into the milk cartons and left them overnight. In the morning we came outside and ripped the milk cartons so all the melted ice came out. We did not expect it to come out of holes in the candles! In my groups one, four holes were shaped as a face. We thought that was really funny.
I thought it was cool how the ice melted out of holes.
It was funny how the holes shaped a face.

November Reflection

Today we were reflecting on our work from November. We need to do it every month because we can sit there and remember what we did. Have you done a monthly reflection?
I enjoyed taking the selfie because it was nice and easy.
I found it tricky to do a background because one of the boxes were already white so I could not make a cool gradient colour. I just made it purple
My digital learning object shows that I can take a screenshot. It also shows I can take a picture of myself and put it on a google drawing.

Woman combing her hair

Today for cybersmart we were using a site called art colouring book. We got to pick a famous art picture and colour it our own way. I chose to do 'Woman combing her hair by Goyō Hashiguchi'. Goyō Hashiguchi was an artist in Japan. He designed fourteen woodblock prints which are regarded as masterpieces of the genre.
I enjoyed colouring it in because I was allowed to make it pop out.
I thought it was hard to pick one because there were a lot of really good ones. It was also hard to do the flowers because I had to do each and everyone individually.
My digital learning object shows that I can use Art colouring book. It also shows I can take a screenshot.

Book Prediction

We predicted what would happen in the new book for the week: Rat Island by Stu Duval. On the back it says: Tam is the cabin boy aboard the pirate ship Terrified Jane. He lives in fear of the dreaded pirate Captain Ezekiel Tombs and his pet scorpion Virus. Tombs sets Tam the awful task of spying on his shipmates and assures him of a dreadful fate if he doesn't obey his commands. Meanwhile, the crew demand that Tam take their side and mutiny against the captain. Tam has to make a terrible choice to make - should he obey Captain Tombs' orders, or should he be loyal to the crew and risk the captain's wrath?

Here is the cover of the book:

And here is my prediction:
It says: I think the story will be on a pirate ship a long time ago. I think the cabin boy Tam, might have to go to Rat Island.

Letter to the Editor

Today we were writing a letter to the editor of the Gisborne Herald. Have you ever written to an editor?
I enjoyed writing the letter because I have never written to an editor before.
I found it tricky to send it because I thought that they would like it.
My digital learning object shows that I can send a letter to the editor.
Here is my letter:

Hi Editor, I’m Kylah from St Mary's School. I go to school right near the Taruheru Awa. Our school has been planting native trees hoping we can get more native animals like birds and insects. But our school needs to keep the river clean so freshwater creatures have a healthy place to live. Our school also needs to shade it because the sun beats down on it all day so it is really hot. But the problem is that there are blackberry bushes near the river and the council are doing nothing about it. People at our school have been to see them, emailed them, and used the Fix It app but still no response. We are frustrated that the council is not helping and we really want the blackberry bushes gone. Please can you do something about it.

Service Poster

This week Miss Steele told us our challenge this week was to make a digital or handmade poster of our term value which is Service. I chose to do it digital and spent a lot of time on it. I had to have Service written where we could see it. I could use a picture of what it sounds, like feels like or looks like, a bible quote about Service, a synonym for service and LET YOUR IMAGINATION RUN WILD!
I enjoyed finding a cool colour for the words because I got to make the colours.
I found it tricky to find a picture for service because it came up with car washes.
My digital learning object shows I can find images labeled for reuse.

I have already done 2 so this is my third. Our first step was to take a photo. I grabbed  my chromebook and took it outside to take a photo. Then the second step was to go on lunaPic. I had to use Andy Warhol x9 to make it look proper.
I enjoyed taking the picture and finding a perfect place to take the photo because I knew going outside was a good Idea.
I found it hard to find the Andy Warhol x9 because it was not where I thought it was.
My digital object shows I can use lunapic. It also shows I can download my pictures and put them on a google drawing.

5 Holiday Things To Do In Gisborne

Today I started my 5 holiday things to do in Gisborne. We were not allowed to use google slides so I had to think of something else. So I chose to make a game on makecode arcade. I chose to do the botanical gardens, Kaiti hill, the boardwalk, a beach and grays bush. This is the order i put them in and what to do: First go to botanical gardens. Jump on rocks and collect ducks for points. Then go ton kaiti hill. Walk up and drink the water at the top to stay hydrated. The to the boardwalk. Avoid the dogs that are walking along it. Then go to the beach. Pick up the rubbish to be a tidy kiwi and avoid the jellyfish stings. Then to grays bush to collect your kiwi guardians medal. There is some information about the places on my game.

I enjoyed drawing the character because I wanted to give her st mary's school uniform. I looked a bit weird but was fine.

I found it tricky to make the ducks disappear because I could not find the block anywhere. I asked my Mum to help and she found a video on how to do it.

My digital learning object shows that I can make a game on makecode arcade. It also shows I can share my game and put it on my blog.

Aurora Tonui Collab Video Game

This Tuesday and the 8th of September Leyla and I have been creating a game about Te Maro. Te Maro was a gardener of 16 gardens. He had to be a great gardener to look after all those gardens! He was shot by captain cook and captain cook put blue beads on Te Maro. Our game was about how he had to look after all his gardens then go home. As soon as I showed my Mum the first thing she asked was why the rats gave you lives. Well I can tell you now. We were actually getting rid of the rats. Also we could not complete the game with only 3 hearts!

We enjoyed drawing Te Maro. We enjoyed drawing Te Maro because he did not take much time. We also enjoyed making the chest and house. They were all as easy as each other.

We found it hard to make the canoe. We found it hard to make the canoe because we drew a canoe but it was to small. so we had to make a just brown block and draw a canoe on the tile map instead of drawing it in new tile.

Our digital learning object shows that we can learn how to make a game on makecode arcade. It also shows that I can take a screenshot of my code and share my game.

Sacraments of Initiation

Yesterday we made a poster about the Sacraments of Initiation. We had to write the three Sacraments of Initiation the Symbol and the Ritual. The Symbols for Baptism are: white, oil, holy water and candle. The Symbols for Confirmation are: Fire, bishop laying his hands out summoning the holy spirit down upon us and a dove. Symbols for Eucharist are the body and blood of Christ.
I enjoyed adding a background because I have never used this one before.
I found it tricky to find an image of the bishop laying his hands out summoning the holy spirit down upon us because some were not even laying his hands out.
My digital learning object shows that I can use the explore tool.

Mecodema Punctellum

For a couple of weeks we have been a report on an extinct native animal. I chose is Mecodema Punctellum because I love bugs and it was the only bug. Mecodema Punctellum is a very hard one so I did not write much.
I found it easy to find an image of the mecodema punctellum.
I found it tricky to find information because it is extinct and not much was written about it.
Next time I will change what I put in the diet and find more things on it.

I enjoyed making it on Canva because it has been very long since I have used it.
I found it tricky to put the photos in because they wouldn't show up in the squares. I had forgotten to drag them.
My digital learning object shows that I can make a photo collage.

Faith Poster

This week Miss Steele told us our challenge this week was to make a digital or handmade poster of our term value which is faith. I chose to do it handmade and spent a lot of time on it. I had to have Faith written where we could see it. I could use a picture of what it sounds, like feels like or looks like, a bible quote about faith, a synonym for faith and LET YOUR IMAGINATION RUN WILD!
I enjoyed colouring it in with my gel pens.
I found it tricky to take a photo.
Next time I will change the colour of the hair if I had brown.

Scratch Songs

In the holidays on a very rainy day I got bored so I went onto hour of code and looked at what I could do. I saw that I could make music on scratch and I clicked on it. It took me to scratch and I watched the tutorial.I thought I could make 3 and asked my brothers and sisters what their favourite song was. I chose Dance Monkey by tones and I, My sister chose Rainbow by Sia and my brother chose Happy by Pharrell Williams. So I coded 3 scratches and sang the songs. I took a screencastify of them working so I could post them.

Report Writing

This week we were given a cut up level three Lion report that we needed to make paragraphs that made sense. First we had to pick buddies and I chose Mya. Then we got the cut up pieces and we had to put them together. After we put them in order, we needed to grab a paper clip and clip them together. I got a blue one. The next day we glued the sentences to yellow paper and drew the success criteria on where the title goes. Last we saw that two other people were done so we clipped them together on a wire. My glue stick almost has no more glue from the glueing!
I learnt that a report needs to have a title, a classification, a description, where what your reporting  lives and a dynamic fact (Fun Fact).
I enjoyed drawing the success criteria.
I found it tricky to glue the sentences.
Next time I will change the coloured cards colour to blue.
My digital learning object shows that I can download the picture Mya took.
Here it is:
