Forced Perspective Photography Summer Learning Journey Wharu

Last week for the Summer Learning Journey we made forced perspective photography. This was so fun! Forced perspective photography is an optical illusion. you make things look bigger or smaller depending on how close to the camera they are. If you want something to appear big, you bring it closer to the camera. If you want them to appear small you make them further away from the camera.

Did you know that forced perspective was used in the Harry Potter movies to make Hagrid look bigger than everyone else?

I enjoyed taking the photos because they were really fun and easy to make and I could be creative. My favourite photo is the sunshine in a jar because the BFG phizzwizard dream from the book by Roald Dahl inspired me to take that photo.

I found it tricky to do it at first because it was hard to tell my siblings where to go and for them to stay still long enough for me to take a photo. I found it easier to move my camera to a better place, and even easier just not taking a photo of people and only taking a photo of things instead.

Next time I would take more pictures because it was so fun to make and I could easily make more.

Here is the BFGs Phizzwizard:

Here is how I made it:

Here is some fun I had with my siblings and a few inanimate objects:

  1. Kia Ora Kylah,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the summer learning journey. It is awesome to see that you have signed up and started the summer learning journey, there are a lot of fun activities we post each day so I look forward to seeing you blog about them throughout the summer.

I love this activity as you get to use your imagination and awesome camera skills to make illusions. I think you did an awesome job introducing and explaining the activity and it is great to see that you got the whole family involved! The activity asked for summer themed illusions, how would you describe your illusions as summer themed?

Your video is very informative and I think it is helpful for other people who want to learn how to create illusions like yours, so great job!

I would also like to know what your favourite part of this activity was?

Keep up the good work and I hope to see more of your posts during the Summer Learning Journey!!

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Zana Yates

    1. Kia Ora Zana!
Thank you so much for commenting on my blog!
The one with my siblings on the bus because lots of people travel in the summer. The one with the bauble and Christmas tree because Christmas is the summer for us. The one with the sun in the jar because it is the sun and there is lots of sun in summer. And the one with my sister hanging on my brother represents my sister on the monkey bars because it is her favourite part of the playground in summer.
My favourite part of the activity was taking really cool photos. If you had to take a forced perspective photo, what would it be of? Why?

    2. Hi Kylah,
That was an awesome explanation for each photo now I can see the summer theme very well. I think if I was to do this activity I would like to take photos at the beach maybe one with me holding the sun, I think that would look pretty cool!
