Vector Art Summer Learning Journey Whetu

Yesterday for Summer Learning Journey we were making vector art. I could not finish it due to seeing it late at night. But for the step it up we had to make a superhero using vector. I learnt how to use Vector art on scratch. Vector art makes your art seem more smooth. Using scratch you can choose between Vector art and Bitmap art. Bitmap is not as good and when zoomed up it is really pixelated. I also used scratch to make my vector art. Not google Drawings.

I enjoyed making my superheroes because they turned out super funny looking! I did Captain Underpants and Batman and Captain Underpants was closest to normal! Batman just looked like a funny looking person with a mask in a black costume!

I found it tricky to make them look normal because they kind of just looked like blobs with faces. So I used a special tool on scratch to move circles into body shapes like legs, arms, face and the body. I also found it tricky to make them say their quotes like "Tra la laaa" for Captain Underpants. So I searched it up and found an image with the right code. I found it really quickly and I am shocked I did not already know the code because it was so easy!

Next time I would make up my own superhero and not an already made up one. I had an idea for a sock superhero called Super Sock Finder that would find a pair of socks when you need them and can't find a pair! I thought it wouldn't be able to save the world but it would be able to save me because I can never find two socks at most times!

Thank you for reading my blog. Here are my Superheroes:

It’s Charlotte here from the SLJ team!

What amazing drawings you’ve created! You’ve added in some awesome details, like Captain Underpants’ cape, and Batman’s abs!! That is also a very iconic quote of Batman’s, good choice!

Why did you choose to use scratch instead of Google Drawing? Do you use it at school and find it easier?

Did you say code? Do you know coding? That is very impressive! Nice work searching up how to do something you weren’t sure of.

Super Sock Finder sounds like the most ideal superhero yet! Maybe Super Sock Finder will save the world because everyone would have nice and toasty feet!

    Pai mahi, Kylah!

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Charlotte :)

  2. Kia ora Kylah,

My name is Fiona and I am a Manaiakalani facilitator based in Taranaki. It is great to see that you are getting involved in the summer learning journey and having a go at the step it up activity.

I think you have done a fabulous job of your vector art super heros. I really like the way you have explained how you created them on Scratch, and the advantages of using Vector over Bitmap. I thought you chose a great quote for Batman too. I really love your idea about creating your own super hero next time. I would be especially grateful for Super Sock Finder, as my washing machine tends to eat socks and finding a matching pair in the morning can be extremely difficult!

Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing more great quality posts from you during the summer learning journey.

    Ngā mihi nui,

  3. Kia ora Kylah, Matua Jacob here! Absolutely fantastic job creating these Vector images! Even more so that you did this in scratch! One of the best things about Vector art is that it can be applied inside scratch to create animations or games. I think what you have done has really stepped it up! You also picked two of my favourite superheroes! Batman is awesome and Captain underpants was one of my favourite books when I was younger! Keep up the great work and continue to make Vector art for scratch projects!
