Thank You SLJ Team!

I know this may not be a task, But thank you SLJ Team! I have made a slide to say thank you for commenting on my blogs and giving me something to do in the holidays! My favourite tasks were Blanket fort makingPoi Rakau, My Special Spot of Summer, Giuseppe ArcimboldoBuilding a Dam and Optical Illusions. But you guys made it happen! So I made a task for myself to challenge myself.
I enjoyed this whole thing because it was as fun as it was tricky! I love the Summer Learning Journey! I can't wait until next year! Hope you are still here next year!
Here is my thank you gifs:
I hope you like it!

Blanket Fort

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a blanket fort and make a list of camping activities. In my fort we could fit 2 of my brothers and I. Have you made a blanket fort before? I enjoyed making the list of activities because I got to write a little bit about the games we chose. It was hard to hold it up because the wind and weight of my sheet made it blow off and break the fort. So I found some of my books and a clip and it held down the sheet perfectly. Next time I would make it a little bit bigger so I can fit all my siblings in there. Not just two of them.
Here is my picture:

Here is my camping activity list:

Perfect Picnic!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to go on a picnic. So I went down to the beach and invited my friend to come. They also brought more food! I loved this task because I got to have food I love while still doing work! Do you like going on picnics too? I enjoyed having the picnic because I love hanging out while eating at the same time! It was tricky to use Canva to make my own perfect picnic list because even though I have used it before It has been a while since I have! So I just looked around and found what I wanted! A picnic mat! Next time I would change the picnic basket so it looks like it has food in it.
Here is a picture of me and my friend having the picnic:

That Was Summer!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a poem about summer. Did you know not all poems rhyme? I learnt that there is more than just two types of nouns. I enjoyed making the poem because it was nice and easy and did not take that long. I found it tricky to find an image on tolaga bay because there was not many and most did not show the beach. So I looked a little longer and found a really good one. Next time I would change it so it had more writing on it rather than mostly picture.
Here is my poem:

Here is my screencastify:

Sorry I did not post this! Here are the slides!

Gliders

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a glider out of recycling and make it work. I had to run outside to the road side bin because it was the recycle day where I live! Mine did not work but I tried lots of times! Did you know gliders have no motor and just glide across the sky? I learnt that if you cover the ends with tape it glides easier. I enjoyed making the google drawings of what my glider should look like because it was nice and easy and did not take that long. I found it tricky to make it fly because the end was covered in tape in the first one. So I took of the tape and it worked a little bit better. Next time I would change it so it could actually fly not just fall and do even more research.
Here is a Wevideo:

Pixel Art and Pixel Animation

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make pixel art on my chromebook with Pixel Art Maker and for the step it up I made a christmas tree with lights animation on Piskel. I have used Piskel before so I knew how to do everything! for the pixel art I did tolaga bay with 2 surfers, 2 swimmers, 1 diver and 1 fisher. Did you know that there are pixels on every device we see? Even the one you're seeing this blog on! I learnt that with just these 3 colours, each pixel can generate over 16 million distinguishable colour variations! I enjoyed making the animation because on each slide I just had to go over the colour before it. It was tricky to make the wharf on the pixel art because there was no brown option. So I just made it a very dark orange and it looked fine. Next time I would change it so there was more people swimming and surfing.
Here is my pixel art:

Here is the tree animation (sorry if it is blurry for you):

Mondrian Art using Google sheets!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make Mondrian Art using Google sheets. Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, who was born March 7, 1872, Amersfoort, Netherlands and died February 1, 1944, New York, New York, U.S., painter who was an important leader in the development of modern abstract art and a big part of the Dutch abstract art movement known as De Stijl or “The Style”. I decided that I should do one with a meaning and one without a meaning. The one with the meaning is a park bench with trees around it. I used green, white, brown and grey. The one without a meaning is dark blue, cyan, yellow, red, grey and white. Did you know that the people that made it used to make art with landscapes and not just Mondrian art? I enjoyed making the meaning less one because the colours did not have to be right next o each other. I found it tricky to make the one with a meaning because it took a lot of making sure the colours were in the right place. So at the end I made sure all of them were in the right place before putting them on my blog. Next time I would find the area of my colours for the step it up.

Here is the one with a meaning:

Here is the one without a meaning:

Top 10 Summer Songs!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a Top 10 Hits like on the radio and a form to fill out so I know what your favorite summer song is! The songs are,
Can't stop the feeling,
Fly Away,
The Other Side,
Savage Love,
Sun goes down,
Uptown Funk,
Royals,
Happy
Rain on me
and Bad Guy.
But not in that order! The Reasons I put them in are:
Can't stop the feeling, because it makes me want to dance whenever I hear it!
For Fly Away It is because whenever I hear it, it makes me happy!
The Other Side because I did was in a flash mob with this song when it was the other side of lock down!
Savage Love because lots of people know it and sometimes makes people happy. I was also taught a tap dance to it!
Sun Goes Down because summer is all about the sun and it just felt summer like.
Uptown Funk because I wanted to add something that is old school but really cool!
Royals because it is one of my favourite kiwi songs.
Happy because the song is all about being happy and how you should too.
Rain on me because it is my favorite song in the whole playlist.
Bad Guy because everyone knows it and sometimes makes people happy.
What are your top 10 songs?
Did you know that music can bring people together? I enjoyed finding songs because they all had to mean something to me and make people happy. It was tricky to add them all on a slide because one of the songs I had wanted to do called Dance away these days did not have a lyric video. So I just changed it to a different song. The song I changed it to is Can't stop the feeling by Justin Timberlake. Next time I would change the background on the sides so it was yellow, which is a more summery colour.
Here is my top 10 hits:

Fishy False Teeth

Today for my summer learning journey I read an article called the bizarre fish with human like teeth. It was about how someone in malaysia found what seemed to be a triggerfish and was. We had to prove if it was real or not. I thought it was real. The reason is in my poster. Did you know that all triggerfish species have teeth? I learnt that the male triggerfish are really aggressive and attack people. I enjoyed researching because there was lots of interesting facts and photos. It was tricky to see if it was real or not because if looked fake and real at the same time. So I went to these slides and found how to know. Next time I would find more reasons it is real.
Here is my poster

Super Seesaw!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a super seesaw out of a wooden spoon, some string, a toilet roll and a ball of paper. Nano girl gave us this task too! Did you know that a seesaw is an example of a lever? I learnt that you only need one finger to make it go! This was quite hard because the string kept rolling off. Did you know that  I enjoyed making the wevideo because there was lots of backgrounds I could choose from so I chose three of my favourites. It was tricky to hit the spoon and make it go far because I taped it to the ground. So I thought, I should use my poi rakau stick! Then I held it down with my foot and it worked! It went so high! Next time I would make a target for it to hit so I could see how well it worked.

It's a Balancing act!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a balancing act out of rocks. The video that we had to watch was amazing! Here is a link to it! Did you know, if you ballence 6 cups by putting three on the bottom, two in the middle and one on the top, it has a better chance of staying? I learnt that if you don't put a big one on the bottom it won't hold that great. I enjoyed making the ring around it to hold it up because it was the most important part of the whole building. It was challenging to make it hold because it kept toppling over. So I tried making the bottom one bigger then it was because it was really small, and it worked. Next time I would try making it taller.
Here is my rock tower:

Poi Rakau

Today for the summer learning journey I had to play Poi Rakau. Poi Rakau is a game where you use a one meter long stick, call out words and do actions that follow, if you drop your stick, you are out! More about the game in the slides! My brother wanted to join halfway through, so we let him do some of them at the end. Did you know, maori warriors used to play Poi Rakau as training because it helps build hand-eye coordination? I learnt that kanikani is the maori word for dance. I enjoyed learning about the game because there was lots of really interesting facts about it. I found it tricky to do the hurihuri because it was very hard to catch. Next time I would add some more words and moves so it is more interesting and even harder!
Here is a how to play and how we played:

Do something NEW New Zealand!

Today for the summer learning journey I watched a video called "Do something new new zealand". It was about how we could go something new to support the local. So we had to go on google maps and pick 15 really fun and cool places to go. Did you know that in Te Puke they have a HUGE kiwi fruit? I learnt that rere falls has unstable water that you not supposed swim in it. I found it easy to find facts on the places because they were popular and there was lots of information. It was challenging to find out how to embed it on my blog. So I looked on the summer learning journey post and it showed me how to do it. Next time I would change the icon for Tongariro Alpine Crossing because it is actually just the default.
Here is my google maps journey:

Is Summer the same in every country?

Today for my summer learning journey I had to figure out if summer was the same in every country. Did you know, that in Japan they have to do work like the summer learning journey? I learnt that in India, one unique area is the Kashmir Valley in the north, where summer break is only ten days! I enjoyed writing the New Zealand summer google drawing because I had to just search up only some facts and then write some things I like doing. It was difficult to use Jamboard because I have never used it before. So I just looked around and then figured it out. If I had to do it again I would make the image different.
Here is my google drawing:

Here is the Jamboard:

Camping List + Multi-Purpose Torch!

Today for the summer learning journey I made a camping list and made a gadget called the multi-purpose torch. It has FOUR purposes! They are a torch, a drink bottle, hand sanitiser and bug spray! The torch and hand sanitiser are for late night trips to the toilet, bug spray just in case those annoying mozzie's come at night and the drink bottle so you can have a drink at night. Did you know 1/3 of New Zealanders go camping every year? I really enjoyed designing my multipurpose tool! It would make nights much less tricky! I found it difficult to find an image of a camping bed on the second slide because most of the images online had a white background. Next time I would make the torch glow in the dark so I can find it when I need it at night.
Here is my Multi-Purpose torch I designed:

Here is my slides on the camping list:

Summer Song Maker

Today for summer learning journey I had to make a summer song using Chrome Music lab. Mine was inspired by the sounds of cicadas, crickets and happy birds of summer! I then decided to play with the music more and managed to work out how to play twinkle twinkle little star. Next I wrote a song about summer to the twinkle twinkle little star tune. Did you know the tune of twinkle twinkle little star is the same tune as the abc song and very similar to baa baa black sheep?
I had so much fun doing all of this I researched how to make one of my favourite songs on music lab, then learnt how to make chords in there as well!
My favourite part of this was making my favourite song sound even better by putting chords in with the song! I found it challenging at first to work out what colour what which note.  Next time I would do more than just the part at the start of my favourite song. I want to learn how to read music faster to make this all easier to do.

Here is my summer song maker based on cicadas, crickets and happy birds:

Here is my twinkle twinkle base song:

Summer Symmetry!

Today for my summer learning journey I learnt about lines symmetry. There are actually two types of symmetrical lines, Radial or Bilateral. Radial is circular and the same on lots of different angles and bilateral is the same on both sides with one line of symmetry. Did you know, your face is not completely symmetrical? It is close to having bilateral symmetry but it not the same on both sides! Unlike bugs that are commonly the same on both sides! I liked this activity very much because I got to find things around my property and see if they have lines of symmetry. I did this by going around the house and finding shapes like ovals, circles, squares and rectangles. I didn't realise how many there were everywhere!. The hardest part was removing the background from each picture in the slides because there were so many I needed to do! The easiest part was finding the symmetrical lines because I just had to look for places where it was the same on each side. If I had to do it again I would change the background of the slides to a different colour because I was thinking of doing black and white instead. I would also like to make some symmetry art out of shells and seaweed next time!

String games. Even more games! Two of diamonds

Today for my Summer Learning Journey I made a two of diamonds with string. I found it very hard at first and it took 10 tries before I got it correct! Once I got it correct it seemed way easier. I decided to make a how to so people could do it too on WeVideo, Which is a editing site. I had to take photos of each step and put a voice over, music, transitions and the end credits. But I had to put actor 1 AND an actor 2. What I put there is a bit funny! If I had to do it again, I would make the music a bit different because I have used it before. I learnt that if you persevere you can achieve many things! I remembered about this site when I used a different site that was almost the same as it. Then I thought ' I should make one for the step it up on string games!' So, I did and here it is.

Gravity Defying Bucket and Cup Trick

Today for summer learning journey Nanogirl task I made a gravity defying bucket and did a cup trick that meant I could turn the cup over and the water didn't escape!
I decided to make and edit a video on how to make the bucket. I really enjoyed making the first video about Tolaga bay, I decided to try editing another video using Movavi.
Both tasks were nice and simple to follow. My favourite of the two was the cup flip trick. I thought I was going to make a mess all over the table! The cup and card trick is pretty cool! I wanted to know why it worked. It's to do with air pressure! With the card there is no air being pushed into the water so the water stays in the cup upside down! pretty cool huh! I have sort of discovered the bucket trick before by accident once when I spun my drink bottle in a circle and no water came out.
I'm getting better at editing my videos and it was easier to work out what to do. I didn't even need my Mum to guide me this time! I had to split the audio to the video lots of times to make the volume higher when it was going into time lapses and lower when I was talking so you could still hear me over the music. Next time if I was do do this task again I would make the string slightly shorter because I had to have it wrapped around my hand lots of times because I had made it too long. I would also make sure I was doing a task when my little brother wasn't around. He tried to grab the scissors!
Here are my videos.

Rehua Poster

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a poster about Rehua. I was having trouble translating it so I searched it up and found only a little bit of information. What I learnt was that it is one of the stars in the scorpio constellation and the God of the stars. He can raise people from the dead and heal anything. He is also the star of New Year.

I liked making the poster because it is quite easy to use google drawing.

It was hard to know exactly what to do because google translate was not working.

Here is my poster:

Special Spot Of Summer

Yesterday for my summer learning journey I had to do a special spot of summer. I chose to do Tolaga bay or Uawa because it is my favourite beach in the Gisborne region. My Mum took the videos and showed me how to edit them together. It is quite tricky to edit videos.
I learnt that the wharf is 660m long and almost 100 years old!
I liked walking down the wharf because the view is amazing!
It was hard to do the part where I got changed quickly because we had to make sure I was in the same place by drawing a line in the sand to see where my feet were.
Next time I would film it in the day because we had to stop filming and go home because it was getting dark. But the good part was that the sun setting made the clouds look really cool and it was safer with the sun with not much chance of getting burnt.
Here is my video:

Minecraft Te Reo Maori

Today for my summer learning journey I went on Minecraft Education Edition and did a Te Reo Maori task. I had to take photos of Maori things in the game. On the kiwi and sunflower my screenshots did not work so my Mum took photos then sent me them from her phone.
I liked taking the photos and exploring because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the slides because Some of the images were too big.
Next time I would find more things.
Here is my slide deck:

Next time if I had to do it again I would do different flavor ice cream
Here is my slide deck:

Will it float?

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a boat out of paper then see if it floats. It actually worked! I took a video of me making it so I can show you. I took a photo of the boat in the filled up sink too.
I liked seeing if it floats because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the paper boat because in the video at the end it went a bit weird and I had to fix it.
Next time I would change the boat to coloured paper so you can see it better in the sink.
Sorry the video said it was too long. Sorry! Here is a link of someone doing it properly.
Here is my photo:

Summer Sounds Poem

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a summer sounds poem. I had to read a poem then go outside, record then listen to what I can hear. Then make it into a poem
I liked recording the video because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the audio for the poem because it is very loud here in my house.
Next time if I had to do this again I would do it where it was not raining because that there is not many things in the rain but lots in the sun.
Here is my slide deck:

It was hard to make cup and saucer because it was very challenging
Here is my cup and saucer:

Here is my Witches broom and Parachute:

Sundial

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a sundial out of cardboard. This is how people in the old days knew the time when there was no such thing as clocks. Nano Girl gave us this task too. I now know that when it is 12:00 it does not show a shadow because the sun is right above it.
I liked making it because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to mark it because the shadow was really short.
Here is some pictures:

Fruit And Vege Art

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a portrait of something made out of fruit and veggies. The person who gave us this idea is called Giuseppe Arcimboldo from Italy.
I liked finding information because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the character work because it was going a bit weird.
Here is my fruits and veggies art:

Which face is real? Don't fall for fake

Today for my summer learning journey I had to do a don’t fall for fake activity. I had to look at two faces and say which one was real.
I liked taking the screenshot of the faces because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to find the differences because it was very hard.
Here is my Which face is real:

Camping Maths

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a campsite for maths. Some of them made almost no sense.
I liked colouring it because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to figure out the maths because it said two instead of three so we had to do two.
Here is my slide deck:

Ultraviolet wearable indicator

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make an ultraviolet wearable indicator. I chose to do korus because it is a kiwi thing. It has the name of each month so we know which one to wear. This would have been helpful yesterday because it was about a purple and I got burnt a lot!
I liked making the indicator because it was the easiest bit.
It was hard to make the necklaces because it was hard to make the koru.
Here is my slide deck:

Dam that works

Today for my summer learning journey I had to make a working dam. I decided to do this while camping. I made it out of wet sand, shells, rocks and seaweed
