It's a Balancing act!

Today for the summer learning journey I had to make a balancing act out of rocks. The video that we had to watch was amazing! Here is a link to it! Did you know, if you ballence 6 cups by putting three on the bottom, two in the middle and one on the top, it has a better chance of staying? I learnt that if you don't put a big one on the bottom it won't hold that great. I enjoyed making the ring around it to hold it up because it was the most important part of the whole building. It was challenging to make it hold because it kept toppling over. So I tried making the bottom one bigger then it was because it was really small, and it worked. Next time I would try making it taller.
Here is my rock tower:

  1. Kia Ora Kylah,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

This activity is super fun as I used to do cup stacking in primary school and my brother and I would make rock towers whenever we visited the river by our house. A lot of people like to make rock piles as an art as it looks cool and is very calming.

I think you introduced and explained the activity well and your rock pile looks great and sturdy. You added some great text boxes pointing out the details in your rock pile and why you made it how you did.

What would you do next time to stack your rocks taller or what other materials would you use?

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

    Ngā mihi nui,

I think I would use sticks to make it more stable and able to hold up more. One time I stacked jenga pieces to look like a cup tower.

  2. Kia ora Kylah,
what a good idea making the ring around the bottom to keep the big rock stable.

I have seen some balancing rock sculptures that look really amazing. I always marvel at how they stay up.
