Summer Song Maker

Today for summer learning journey I had to make a summer song using Chrome Music lab. Mine was inspired by the sounds of cicadas, crickets and happy birds of summer! I then decided to play with the music more and managed to work out how to play twinkle twinkle little star. Next I wrote a song about summer to the twinkle twinkle little star tune. Did you know the tune of twinkle twinkle little star is the same tune as the abc song and very similar to baa baa black sheep?
I had so much fun doing all of this I researched how to make one of my favourite songs on music lab, then learnt how to make chords in there as well!
My favourite part of this was making my favourite song sound even better by putting chords in with the song! I found it challenging at first to work out what colour what which note.  Next time I would do more than just the part at the start of my favourite song. I want to learn how to read music faster to make this all easier to do.

Here is my summer song maker based on cicadas, crickets and happy birds:

Here is my twinkle twinkle base song:

Here is my favourite song. Can you guess what it is? Without chords:

  1. Kia ora Kylah,
You sure did make a lot of music! Your composition based on cicadas, crickets and happy birds was delightful. It sure did sound like summer to me.

I like the way you challenged us to guess your favourite song. I have played it over and over but still can't think what it is. Can you give me a clue?

  2. Mōrena Kylah,

Fiona here from the Summer Learning Journey.

What a fantastic blog post you have done for the Summer Song Maker activity - ka pai! Your first composition was very relaxing to listen to. I really liked how you were inspired by the many sounds of summer such as birds and cicadas.

I listened to your song and I think I know what it is. Is it Happier by Marshmello? I asked my son who is in year 6 for some help and he said it sounded just like that song, so I hope we are right!

I am very impressed by all the effort you have put into completing both the Kick Start and Step it Up parts of this activity. I will definitely be marking it as a stand out blog so it receives BONUS POINTS. Great work!

I look forward to seeing more of your fantastic mahi over the summer.

    Mā te wā,

    Fiona (SLJ).

  3. Kia Ora Kylah,

My name is Zana and I am a blog commenter from the Summer Learning Journey.

This activity was very fun as you had the opportunity to use a new site to play around with and make some tunes of your own. I think you did a great job making multiple songs and I like that you stepped it up and included lyrics AND a clip of you singing them over one of the beats you had made.

It is very cool that you set a challenge for your readers to guess the song based on the beat, I think I can guess which song it is. Is it Happier by Marshmello?

Let me know if I guessed correctly?

Keep up the great work and I hope to see more of your posts over the summer.

    Ngā mihi nui,
    Zana Yates
